What I just finished reading!

I just finished reading "Wonder" written by R.J. Palacio. This is Ms. Palacio's first novel. I have wanted to read this book all year and never had the time to sit down and read it.

Wow!! What a great book. The main character is August (Auggie) Pullman who was born with a facial deformity. The fact that he is deformed has prevented him from attending school- until now. He is going to school for the first time. Can you imagine entering school in fifth grade and being the new kid? That is the challenge that Auggie faces, but he also has the added pressure of having deformities.

The story is beautifully written and you get to see the story unfold through several different characters points of views. I loved reading how the rest of the family felt as Auggie started this new adventure in his life. I also loved the overall theme of the book, choose kind. What a wonderful concept for us to try here at school, choose to be kind no matter how people look!

Come to the library and check out this new title added to the collection. Maybe we should add it to our fifth grade Breakfast Book Club list? We could have a great discussion about Auggie!
